How to upload an image onto Jack's Guestbook |
|
Firstly i would like to point out that it is not possible to select an image on your home computer with a view to uploading it to the Guestbook. Any image must be obtained from the internet and the full 'http' address of the image must be typed in correctly into the 'message' area of the Guestbook.
I will hopefully make this as clear as possible as we go on with the instructions laid out here.

How do i find an image to upload to the Guestbook? |
|
One of the best ways to do this is to use a search engine such as Google or AltaVista.
For example if you click here it will take you to Google's very own image specific search engine. This web page can search for images in the same way you search for anything on Google's or Altavista's standard homepages. AltaVista's image search engine can be found by clicking here.
Once you are at either of these webpages you then start the process by typing in a description of an image you would like to try and find for uploading to Jack's Guestbook. For example if i wanted to upload an image of a cloud then i would type in the word 'cloud' and then click on google's 'Google Search' button or AltaVista's 'Find' button. What you will then see is a random collection of images based on the word search for 'cloud' that are located on websites throughout the world.

OK I've seen an image i like and i want to send this to the Guestbook... What now? |
|
The first point i would like to make is that the desired image should not be any bigger than 500 x 500 in order to keep the loading time down to an acceptable level for others to see the page.
So please keep this in mind when you want to send any images .

The image to your right was found using Google's search engine.
When you see an image you like whilst searching... click on it and you will be taken to the website that is hosting or containing the image.
Once you have found out where the image is based on it's page do the following:
With your computer mouse place the cursor over the image and do a 'right click' then you select the word 'properties' with a 'left click' of your mouse at the very bottom of the menu.
What you now get are the properties of this specific image:
Address/URL: http://www.jackshea.co.uk/images/Clouds.jpg
Size: 25584 bytes
Dimensions: 175 x 250 pixels
This is where the 'fun' begins... and yes... it's by far the easiest part!

OK enlighten me... |
|
There are four simple steps to make now in order to see the image appear on the Guestbook.
- Highlight the full 'Address/URL' of the image, from the 'Properties' popup window you made from your 'right click' mouse action, by dragging the mouse cursor over it. [the full http://... part]
- 'right click' your mouse over the now highlighted 'Address/URL' and select 'Copy'.
- Now go to Jack's Guestbook and click at the top right where it says "Images: use " to make this text appear in the 'message' area of the Guestbook.
- The last thing you need to do is remove the letters URL located between here: and then with your right mouse button simply paste the 'Address/URL' of the image you want to appear.
That's it! |
